The State of JavaScript 2025 results are in. 40% of respondents now write only TypeScript, up from 34% last year and 28% in 2022. React is used by 83.6% and, in the survey's words, with noted dissatisfaction. Vite is used by 84% with 98% satisfaction, while webpack is used by 87% with 26% satisfaction.
I think the TypeScript number is settled and a team that has not made the move has a decision that is overdue.
The React number is the interesting one, because it pulls two ways. Usage is as high as it has ever been, and satisfaction keeps slipping. I think the lesson is that survey sentiment should move a roadmap less than it tempts you to. The people most likely to answer a survey about a framework are the ones with opinions about it, and dissatisfaction with the most-used tool is partly the cost of being the most-used tool. It is not a reason to re-platform a ten-year product.
My view is that the numbers worth acting on are the ones that describe a change already made by most of the industry, like TypeScript, and the ones worth watching are the ones that describe a mood, like React. I would read the Vite satisfaction as a signal about what new projects should start on.
Which number in this year's survey would actually change something on your roadmap?
